The Kit Wilson Trust for Animal Welfare is looking for a Charity Retail Assistant Manager to join our Hailsham charity shop team.

‍

This is a hands-on retail role working alongside the Shop Manager to help keep the shop running effectively and to a high standard. You will work with customers, donors and volunteers, process and merchandise donated stock, and take responsibility for the safe and effective running of the shop when the Shop Manager is absent.

Every item sold through our shops helps support the care andwelfare of rescued and rehomed animals at The Kit Wilson Trust.

Main Duties Include

• Providing excellent customer service to customers, donors and supporters.
• Supporting the Shop Manager with the day-to-day running of the shop.
• Taking responsibility for the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager.
• Supervising and supporting volunteers on shift.
• Processing, pricing and merchandising donated stock.
• Maintaining shop standards, housekeeping and stock organisation.

• Operating the till, cashing up and completing cash handling duties.
• Opening and closing the shop where required.
• Dealing with routine operational issues and providing appropriate handovers.
• Ensuring security, health and safety and GDPR procedures are followed.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

• Has retail, charity retail or customer service experience.
• Is confident taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of a shop.
• Can motivate and work effectively alongside volunteers of different ages and backgrounds.
• Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
• Has good customer service and communication skills.
• Is comfortable using tills, card machines and basic technology.
• Can work effectively as part of a small team and support the Shop Manager in maintaining high standards.

Desirable

• Previous charity retail experience.
• Previous keyholder or supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of brands, fashion or donated stock standards.

Additional Information

• Fixed-term maternity cover position.
• 21 hours per week over three days.
• Working days are flexible and will be agreed with the successful candidate.
• The working pattern may include Saturdays.
• Based at our Hailsham charity shop.
• We are aiming for the successful candidate to start towards the end of October 2026.
• Subject to satisfactory references and a probationary period.
• The role includes responsibility for the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager.
• The role involves periods of standing, moving stock and handling donations.
